Introducing: ProVelocity Bat | Innovative Baseball Training Bat

Introducing: ProVelocity Bat | Innovative Baseball Training Bat

The ProVelocity Bat is an innovative training bat that delivers solid results. As players of baseball or softball, we are always looking for ways to improve our training, while increasing our quality of contact, hand-eye coordination, bat speed, and exit velocity.

There is one bat we've found that allows you to take batting practice with speeds up to front toss, hit off the tee, receive audio feedback to indicate a short, quick bat path, and most importantly can be adjusted in the effective weight so that hitters can also train to improve strength and bat speed.

Meet the ProVelocity Bat.

Why Use a Specialty Baseball Training Bat?

Training bats are made from a variety of different types of materials, including wood, aluminum, composite, graphite, carbon fiber, titanium, and steel, and they will vary in bat length, barrel size and weight.

A baseball training bat is a bat that has been specially designed to help players improve their hitting and is different than a game bat. You can find a training bats for baseball or softball, and each one offers something different.

You may see a short bat being used for tee work with two hands or just one. You may also find an overloaded barrel bat so the barrel feels heavy and hitter is forced to swing hard through the contact point - build bat speed. There are also lighter weight bats, underload, which can be used to help the hitter feel what a powerful snap is as the barrel whips into the hitting zone.

What is the Pro Velocity Bat?

The ProVelocity Bat (PVB) is a baseball training bat that allows hitters to work on both swing path and bat speed by doing flips, batting tee training, and low velocity front toss.

The Pro Velocity Bat is 32 inches in length and weighs 42 oz. It resembles a baseball bat with a common bat handle for the hands to grip. Here is where the Pro Velocity Bat is unique and becomes a powerful training tool for overload bat speed training.

ProVelocity Bat differs from a game bat in that it has a sliding Power Barrel that features eight resistance bands that can change the amount of force (bat speed) required to move the sliding barrel mechanism from the starting point to the ending point on the shaft.

As the hitter that means you can use the ProVelocity Bat to get stronger and at the same time ensure your bat path is short and to the baseball.

For swings where it is easy to move the barrel - for instance, one resistance band at 5 pounds of force – the hitter will not notice much of a change in the amount of force required to move the sliding power barrel. With just one band engaged, hitters take a full round of batting practice.

For power/strength training sessions, hitters would engage all eight resistance bands which is upwards of 100 pounds of force needed to slide the power barrel during the swing. You can see how just 10-20 strong dry swing repetitions with all eight bands engaged would be a great workout for a hitter and really encourage bat speed gains.

How Do I Train With the ProVelocity Bat?

Two common ways to train with the ProVelocity Bat are dry swings and front toss.

Dry swings are where you swing the bat without hitting the baseball really focusing on form and bat path.

Under the supervision and guidance of a trained coach or physiology professional, any number of programs can be devised to improve bat speed.

For instance, over a 4-week period, a high school hitter could take twenty cuts a day.

Start with two bands and work each week to add one more band. With proper swing mechanics and a connected swing – arms coordinated with hips, legs, and core – hitters will see improved bat speed through muscle gains in each of these areas of the body.

Another way to train with the PVB is front toss.

To slide the barrel mechanism into the contact position on the shaft, the hitter must produce a short, compact swing that does not loop or cast out wide.

When this is achieved, the hitter will feel the barrel slide AND hear two “clicking” sounds that indicate the barrel is on plane and whipped through the zone correctly.

About the Author

Joe H. Tanner Baseball Products was founded by retired coach Joe Tanner after nearly fifty years in baseball. Joe realized a need in the game and solved it with the first Tanner Tee prototype. It was lightweight, portable, and easy to work the inside and outside part of the plate. It disassembled with ease and could be transported from the cage to the ball field in nearly any personal equipment bag. His tee was adjustable and held its height based on friction mechanics. Joe earned three patents for his Tanner Tee.
