One of the benefits of choosing a Tanner Tee is that we offer 3 stem heights – Standard/Adult, Youth/Short, and Low Ball Tee. (And the stems are interchangeable with your base)
But you may wonder, “What is a lowball batting tee anyway and how can it help my softball or baseball hitting?”
A lowball tee is an advanced batting tee that can go a full 10 inches lower than the lowest setting of a standard batting tee. (Compare the adjustable low ball tee height of 16”-23” to the standard adult tee height of 26”-43”.)
So, why train with a lowball batting tee?
The first, and most obvious answer is that having an advanced lowball tee helps hitters train for the low pitch. But it's more than that.
Training with a lowball tee forces hitters to learn to use their back leg properly —no matter where in the zone the pitch happens to be.
Training with a Low Ball tee helps hitters to learn to use their back leg properly at all times — no matter where in the zone the pitch happens to be. The best and most extreme example of this is Adrián Beltré.
Beltré would sometimes drop to his knee after hitting massive homers.
Why?
He once said that while he was hitting, he wanted that feeling of “driving the back knee to the ground.”
And it worked for him — being the only third baseman in history with both 3,000 career hits and 400 homers.
3 Reasons You Should Train with a Low Ball Tee
Getting lower into your back leg like Adrián Beltré does 3 major things to help hitters.
1 - Better Bat Angle
Standing tall and swinging down on the baseball will lead to hitting more balls straight into the dirt. However, getting lower helps you get a better bat angle — one that is on plane with the pitch and will make it easier to hit elevated line drives.
2 - See the Ball Better
Whether you’re watching archery, darts, or billiards, the common thread is that the best of the best have their eyes on plane with the target. When you get lower in your back leg, your head gets lower too. This puts your eyes closer to the plane of the ball, which makes it easier to see (and hit).
3 - More Power
With 477 Major League home runs, Adrián Beltré is a great example of how getting lower into your legs and driving that back knee to the ground produces a LOT of power.
2 Ways To Get a Tanner Low Ball Tee
If you are ready to add a Low Ball Tee to your equipment, here are 2 options:
Option 1 - Low Ball Tee Stem Only
Do you already have another Tanner Tee?
If you prefer not to have a second tee, you can order a Low Ball replacement stem for the base you already have. Simply unscrew and swap out the stems – it’s that easy.
To order, simply select the base you already own and then select the “Low Ball” Tee stem height.
Option 2 - Complete Low Ball Tee
If you don’t want to change out stems, or you want to have a 2nd batting tee (some popular drills require two tees), then this option is for you.
The Low Ball Stem height can be ordered with any Tanner Original, Heavy or Pro batting tee:
- Choose the batting tee you want - Tanner tee - the Original, Tanner Pro or Tanner Heavy
- Select the stem size (In this case, you want the “Adjustable 16-23 inch (Low Ball)”
- Add to cart and complete checkout
In either case, you’ll enjoy free ground shipping on all orders over $40 to anywhere in the continental US.
